Text Outline

For Photoshop 5.x Users

There are a number of ways to make an outline for a text layer or an object in Photoshop. It really depends on which version you are using. Below it explains the steps for Photoshop 5.0. If you have Photoshop 5.5+, please scroll down.
Step 1:

Open a new image with a width of 200 and a height of 100.

Create your text. You might want to set the tracking of the text to 50.

Step 2:

Now CTRL click the text layer to select it.

Go to (Select > Modify > Expand) and use a setting of about 2

Step 3:
Create a new layer (CTRL + Shift + N). Make sure you keep the selection active.

Select the Paint Bucket Tool (K) and fill the selection with black.

Press (CTRL + D) to deselect it.

Final:

Now go to the layer palette and drag the black text layer below the original text layer.
